Wonderful museum with about 4 sections. One is about railway and steel making, another one is about immigrant history and some Newcastle based companies. We loved so much steel making light show. You will love this place if you are keen to deep dive into Newcastle history and get understanding of its transformation over the time.

Highly recommended to watch the Sound and Light show. It gives a glimpse of old steel factory and its process. It also shows the human aspect and how workers spent their life here to produce the steel that built Australia. We enjoyed our time here, even tho its a small museum, staff make it much more interesting by giving demonstration.
Brilliant venue for Girls on Key poetry workshop and reading. Exhibits resonant with stories for creative inspiration. Big thanks to attentive and helpful staff.
We went and saw the Colour exhibition by Questacon there recently. It was a fantastic hands on experience for the kids. We also went to the Newcastle History and GHB Coal exhibitions whilst there which are free to attend. Definitely recommend going next time you're in Newcastle. It is right near the harbour with plenty of restaurants around.
Nice little museum with local historic artefacts. The light and sound show about the old steel manufacturing was a hit with the kids. An hour is enough for the visit. Conveniently located next to tram line.
On my second last day in Newcastle I thought it was worth popping into Newcastle Museum to learn a bit about the area. It's free although there may be a ticket into special exhibits, but I was greeted by the lovely staff there informing me about a short show on steel making before walking around in the cool surrounds looking at the different sections. Didn't know some famous brands and people started here, certainly walked away with some new information. Definitely worth a visit.
It was great to see such a small space packed with more details about various history of new castle and staff were so friendly explaining the paid and free shows and you can choose whichever you opt for.. Nice place in the middle of the city.. Kids would love to learn the history...
A museum behind the information centre in the city of Newcastle that provides free entry to view their exhibits. Found it pretty cool that that held alot of history as well as artefacts about the history of this area. Worth a visit
