Excellent tour. Very relaxing day with interesting history and an epic train ride. Excellent tour. Very relaxing day with interesting history and an epic train ride. Review of West Coast Wilderness Railway: Rack and Gorge from Queenstown Reviewed 22 December 2020 The construction of the train line from Queenstown to Strahan was an epic feat of its age. The tour includes a host on each carriage who provides lots of interesting history and facts about the railway and the land through which it travels. There are three stops along the way which include some gold panning and rainforest walks. You can pay extra to get food and beverages included but you can bring your own and consume it on the train also. The return journey is a bit slow given that you've seen most of it before but the host still provides interesting commentary to keep it interesting. Our host was Molly and she was very enthusiastic and interacted personally with all guests to try to ensure everyone had a great time.

Excellent experience and must-do when in the Strahan - Queenstown area. The whole experience was very professionally organised from the time of booking, with ample information provided a week prior, about the covid specific precautions. Morning check-in was friendly and included temperature checks prior to boarding. Arriving at least 15 mins before boarding start time is a good idea. Lots of street parking and paid parking slots around. Clean toilets are available in the platform. Very good emphasis on the safety instructions before start of the journey. All staff on board the train as well as in the station were very friendly and happy to assist with any queries. Special mention to a great job done by Molly, who was the host in our carriage. Molly kept us hooked throughout the journey with inspiring stories of grit and determination around the History of and life in Queenstown. Brilliant job. The locomotive engine turntable process in the station is a great bonus here. The whole experience was amazing and left us with great memories about our day in Queenstown, despite the bad experience at Tracks cafe with the station. The station and the journey is highly recommended. Tracks cafe within the station is not.
Highlight of our trip! Thoroughly enjoyed being served scones, soup, etc....while sitting back and watching the stunning scenery. Moss, ferns, enormous tree ferns, huon pine, river gorges, while hearing the local history....splash out and go wilderness class for the added special touch.
Lovely day in a lovely place. Unfortunately the train was full so have booked in for another day. I managed to get on board your lovely steam train. I had a fabulous time with great people lovely views and professional friendly staff. Thank you
A great day out on this epic train (No 1) from 1896 using a Rack and Pinion setup to climb mountains to Dubbil Barril and back again. The staff were pleasant, food was great and the story telling appreciated. The train and carriages are maintained impeccably well with the loco being powered with oil not wood.
Brilliant train journey, lots of amazing stories on the history of this place and the railway itself from the fantastic guides/stewards. All the team are super friendly and the views are fantastic.
Fabulous adventure on the train with Jacinta providing us with top service, historical information and friendly company..... And Bob the Engine Driver ensuring our safety..... Highly recommend
Great little train ride with awesome commentator. Without him it could have been boring. Found out a great deal about that part of history and had lots of laughs. Was a beautiful sunny day and went for a lovely walk in the rainforest as well. Well worth the effort to get there.
