Very well-maintained home and garden, but the garden is a bit dry in the Summer, so I definitely recommend visiting in other seasons! It was interesting reading up on the history of the previous home owners. Christine the tour guide was absolutely lovely, knowledgeable and charming!

Beautifully preserved and preserved historic home. So much original furniture and artefacts in a big interesting garden.
An elegant large house, with beautifully created gardens, once owned by a prominent Castlemaine family - now open the the public and run by well informed volunteers - who tell the long and amazing history of this house and the many family characters. Very interesting and enjoyed the gardens.
A quaint little house in original condition, showing how well to do families lived in the goldfields at the turn of the nineteenth to twentieth centuries. Would love to go back in spring.
Great historic place. Pretty well hidden, but once you get in it just keeps going. The museum and home is kind of a let down, but the gardens are stunning. Highly recommended.
Passionate volunteers who give a great tour, great for history buffs and others..
Very passionate volunteers gave us an inspiring history and informative tour. You can't help but be inspired by the legacy of the great man that built this home. What a pioneer! Highly recommended if you are keen on history and even if you are not I'm certain you will enjoy the art and this family's story. Can't believe it's free. Oh don't forget to wear the show covers
Gorgeous old house with authentic family made heirlooms. Lovely gardens and friendly volunteers to show you through. Pity it was raining but they lent us umbrellas.
