This is a relatively new museum and they are really getting their act together. Now the environment is hot and dry except during winter when it is cold and dry. The displays are fabulous and you get so close to them. Yeah. A real must see museum. Great staff, good story and plenty of action to retain your interest for 3 or 4 hours.

We had heard of Winton before in terms of dinosaurs but never Eromanga - which is odd because we soon learned that this is where the biggest dinosaur fossils in Australia have been found. We did the one hour museum tour as well as took part in the fossil preparation program which was great. It's clear that the staff are super passionate about their work and are so eager to share with you everything they know. The museum tour was a great place to learn how dinosaur fossils are found and then preserved as well as a great chance to see the largest dinosaur fossils in Australia. It's not a hands on museum - so this might be hard for the little kids. However the fossil prep program is very hands on and with the use of some special tools, the kids get to help remove dirt from real life fossils. This is no gimmick - this is actually important work that the kids can take part in and be a part of the great work the museum does. You really can't go to Eromanga without a visit to the museum - even if you're in Quilpie its well worth a day trip out here.
