I put my aging chainsaw in for a general service in very early January and the gentleman at Earlwood Mowers I spoke to explained that he had a lot of work to do and I would not get it back for 2 or 3 weeks. I replied that that was fine and left it with him. Towards the end of the third week it still had not been looked at, so I spoke to him again in the fourth week and he said it would be finished Wednesday 6/02/19. Then a mysterious problem occurred with the carby and he was waiting for a kit to be delivered. The new finish time was Thursday 07/02/19, I said I would come and collect it on Friday 08/02/19. I arrived at the shop to be told that they had dismantled the chainsaw motor and it had next to no compression. He then showed me a picture on his phone of the bore in my motor and that the bore was badly scored. He advised that it was due to wrong fuel mixture and therefor stuffed and not financially worth repairing, He charged me nothing for allegedly ordering in a carby kit which he didn't use and to strip the motor down to the stage he could photograph the cylinder bore to prove it was stuffed. I took my chainsaw home and had a close look at it. It appeared not to show any evidence of being worked on at all. So the next thing I did was pull the pull start rope. Surprise surprise, heaps of compression! I drained the fuel tank, added fresh fuel and it started on the fourth pull. I adjusted the chain and proceeded to cut down 2 pony tailed palms and sliced the trunks up into pieces that I could actually pick up. This is why I wanted to get the saw serviced in the first place. In conclusion I wasn't ripped off or overcharged, but I was lied to. He treated me like an idiot who had no mechanical knowledge. Never again.
