So big station.
Very good hyper busy railway station. Easily accessible from different parts of the city. Well guarded and protected by the police all around the clock. Good railway conductors available at all times. Modern day escalators available at your disposal. Easy access to all wheelchair bound travellers.
Love this station. This is the main terminus for all V-Line services, and all Metro services stop here too. Also, Skybus services to the airport can be caught here. There are always trains available and lots of cafes, restaurants and shops within the station making it a really good experience as Melbourne's main transportation hub. I also love the futuristic architecture of the station.
Train timetable displays are frequently wrong. Very frustrating when the display says the train is going to Craigieburn then you go on the train and end up in Sunshine. There are also no rubbish bins on the platforms, so the floor and tracks are the rubbish bin.
Cold, drafty, noisy, clutterred, facilities such as toilets require a long walk in any direction, as do trains arriving at distant platforms. The old Spencer Street Station had character, and that wonderful wall mural that is missing from this somewhat dark, dank and industrial heartland for mechanical beasts. That said, I suppose we have to have a place to put trains without getting wet, but we will certainly feel the chill in winter.
Can't comprehend why there are no rubbish bins on the platforms yet. It has been 2 years I'm filing complaints about it. Seriously, please tell me why...
Southern Cross railway station (until 13 December 2005 known as Spencer Street station) is a major railway station in Docklands, Melbourne. It is on Spencer Street, between Collins and La Trobe Streets, at the western edge of the Melbourne central business district. The Docklands Stadium sports arena is 500 metres north-west of the station.
