Yowah, Australia

Big area to dig in. We found a little bit of colour but not much. There was lots of evidence that there is opal, we obviously weren't noodling in the right pile. Still loads of fun.

We love yowah, had the caravan park to ourselves, same with the fossicking area. Great little community. Plenty of space to fossick. Has artesian hot water running through as well.
Fun fun fun, if you like finding little, be eaten by midgees and Flies by the millions. But it was great fun.
Yowah is a wonderful place full of surprises. Recommend fossiking and visiting the artesian spa.
Not what it used to be.....
If you like to fossick for opal this is a great place. Friendly people and good facilities for the location. The store has an amazing array of goods at very reasonabl prices.
It's a public opal field (though some areas within the field are private claims). Get a cheap fossick license from the nearby caravan park & have a look for opalised-interior "Yowah Nuts". I found 1 1/2 after 2 hours looking. They are not common, opalisation even less so, but fun to have go. Once you found one, like gold fever, you are impelled to keep looking. They can be found anywhere but probably better to look around the pre-dug (by the mining authority) holes. Look for a layer just below a stone layer approx 2 meter down
No telling what you can find
