The IMA folk really care about music, know how good it is for us, and are passionate about helping people make it part of their lives. The business is based on tailoring lessons to each student's technical needs, interests and learning style, with the aim of getting students to a level of effortless playing/singing that frees up expression. The mentors are all highly skilled, practising musicians who also have a thorough understanding of how it all works. Definitely a long way ahead of the "play this... now play this..." style of teaching!

IMA cater to the individuals goals, whether it's learning the basics or just improving technique. They helped me greatly with my guitar skills and to understand why I would play the notes as well as how. A genuinely nice bunch of blokes.
In a short space of time the team has not only taught me to play sax , but also to sight read music. To say that they have endless patience, is an understatement! It's true - ''you can teach an old dog new tricks!''.
The people at IMA make learning music an excellent and fun experience. Whether you want to talk about music theory or just want to jam, they will tailor the session to you. The staff know about so many bands, so many different styles of music. One lesson we're playing the blues and the next we're talking about Stravinsky or something. Of course, they are also structured and will progressively challenge you to be better with your instrument, as good teachers should do. Each week with my teacher makes learning music a joy, and it is something that I look forward to. And my guitar playing has gotten better and better! They are friendly, knowledgeable, and great at what they do. Give IMA a go!
If you want to learn music, and want to learn good technique, then IMA is the place for you. The mentors at IMA are all highly knowledgeable and outstanding musicians. I rest assured that my vocal cords are in great hands as I’m guided along my journey to grow as a singer. Learning to sing can be challenging at times, but my mentors are ever so encouraging, and they make lessons fun a well. I’m very glad I’ve found such an amazing place that brings me so much joy, and also connects me with other like-minded people.
Great tutors, great music. They all work really hard to find the best route in making your learning the most efficient, I've been a student at IMA for almost 5 years now and I've learnt so much, such a supportive community. Wouldn't change for the world.
IMA staff are extremely friendly people who help you pursue your musical dreams and talent. I've been having singing lessons at IMA for 5 years and every lesson I've increased my vocal ability.
I came to IMA having played guitar for 25 years, and not having progressed in the past 20. I can say that within six months my playing was at another level, and now after 18 months I have never enjoyed music - playing it, writing it, listening to it - as much as I do now. I 'really' understand how to use, apply and hear modes now - something that I thought I understood for years. My IMA mentor really works as a guide - showing me ideas and concepts, then coaching me to explore and apply these concepts in my own playing, and to hear them in the music I listen to. Even if you have been playing for years, invest some time and effort in yourself and see how much better you can be with some expert, experienced, and highly tailored mentoring from IMA.
