I applied for an employment position (stores related) in this company in response to an ad on Gumtree that Terry had placed and was obviously handling the interviews for. He emailed back politely and requested an interview, although he neglected to tell me the name and address of the business premises even after I replied in the affirmative, which I found a little odd. Then showed a distinct lack of courtesy in not replying to not one, but two polite and well intentioned emails that I sent afterwards explaining why I could not make the interview. This was due to buses letting me down (as my car was being repaired) as well as me walking in the wrong direction due to being unfamiliar with the area. I actually did get to the suburb but with another 1km of walking to go I would have been way too late for the interview. I also did not have a phone with me at the time to call and explained why later. I had to connect with two buses as well as the long walking distance but the buses did not connect as per the TransPerth timetable. Although I understand that most employers these days would be reluctant to hire a new employee that has to catch buses on interview day and who doesn't use a smart phone, however there is no excuse for rudeness and lack of courtesy by ignoring emails. In these modern times with communication exceedingly quick and easy, writing out a quick reply taking all of 30-40 seconds is so easy as to be laughable. So to ignore two messages is telling me that the person is either very lazy, is incompetent (does not know how to use computer email) or just plain conceited and contemptuous. I'm guessing the latter two are the most accurate in this case. So in this case it was a small win for me, as I found out, in an oblique fashion, a little about the potential employer.
