Wax Wash is rated 3 out of 5 in the category consumer goods. Read and write reviews about Wax Wash. In 1976, frustrated by new and old vinyl records that crackled, hissed and popped, DJ Davis Rock III inquired with his record company, and was told by an industry insider (an employee at a major vinyl record pressing plant) that: 1. Montan wax ester is added to the vinyl record compound to provide for good release of the record from the stamper. 2. When the record is removed from the press without the lubricating effect of the montan wax ester in the compound, the grooves of the record are sometimes fractured, torn, and deformed by the removal. These faults in the groove produce noise on playback. 3. Montan wax ester at the correct percentage is compatible with the resins and is homogenized into the surface of the record at the normal pressing temperature. 4. If more than the required amount of the montan wax ester is used, the excess amount is not absorbed into the surface of the record. 5. Its presence results in non-uniformity in the surface of the record, particularly as related to the friction between the stylus and the groove. This non-uniformity produces noise when the record is played. The insider gave Rock a recipe that he and others in the industry used to clean their vinyl records. This recipe was never given to the vinyl record buying public, or produced in commercial quantities. Sensing a business opportunity, Rock produced the first batch of Wax Wash in 1976, going on to untold units over the next decade. With the emergence of Compact Disc's in the mid to late 1980's, the need for Wax Wash waned. Production ceased in 1988 and the recipe lay dormant for 29 years until Rock restarted production in 2017. Wax Wash is the original and best vinyl record cleaner on the market. Created at a time when vinyl was king, it has been reborn to help a new generation of audiophiles. Unlike other brands of vinyl record cleaner, Wax Wash contains: 1. 100% D-limonene which removes excess montan wax, fingerprints, dust and other surface contaminants; 2. Laboratory grade Distilled Water free of any contaminants; 3. 99.8% Isopropyl Alcohol; and 4. The highest quality surfactants ensuring a deep clean and shine.
