This building is only studio apartments - no dorms or shared rooms, as is common with other university accommodation. Each apartment has its own kitchenette, bathroom and furniture. Some rooms are long/narrow and have a king single bed while others are shorter/wider and have a double bed. There is a coin laundry and vending machine in the common area, as well as a rooftop seating area with shared barbecue. This building of approximately 54 apartments is much smaller than other student accommodation in the area which typically contain hundreds of apartments. This coupled with the 100% studio apartment composition means residents tend to keep to themselves, making for a generally peaceful and friendly student living experience. The only negatives are the lack of air conditioning and the smoke alarms are quite sensitive, resulting in several fire evacuations per semester, but residents are encouraged to use their rangehood and open their window and door to allow proper ventilation while cooking. And as can be expected with inner city apartments, the building has constant traffic noise on one side, and a childcare centre on the other side, meaning noisy children between about 7pm and 6pm weekdays and sometimes on weekends too. The windows are mostly sound proof once closed, though. On-site car parking spaces can be arranged for an additional weekly cost. Street parking is free after 7pm at the time of writing. There is a community garden across the road which enables ethically minded students to dispose of compost waste. Details about the community garden, including gardening times, can be found on signage within the garden.

I live in a medium studio which I can't recommend. The ventilation is extremely poor, rangehood not connected to anywhere, the waste gas is just released back to the room. It's hence very hot in the room when you try to cook. The waste gas is also bad for health. It's been studied that kitchen waste gas causes cancer and is comparable to vehicle waste gases. If your room faces the road, congrats, you got a natural heater in your room, in winter and summer. Facilities slow to repair. Unluckily there are a lot of repairs required because it's a super old building. Bar fridge works awkwardly. Don't buy ice cream if you move here. I seldom cook now. Still, the room is consistently 5-6 degrees hotter than outside, including the already hot summer days. How bad is the ventilation exactly? To give an example, when it's 18 degrees outside, it's 26 degrees inside. Because of the poor ventilation, it just refuses to cool down. In Feb, it easily gets 31 degree almost every evening. Almost everyone opens door just to get some flowing air. Don't even try to imagin spending your summer here, unless, of course, you just like it hot. It's part of UTS housing (which Will not be in 2021). Unlike the other places, weekly cleaning of common area is not provided.
