Late arrival on Sunday evening restaurant full! Fortunately the delightful owner Susie rescued us by offering two seats at the Bar. Five course meal first class. Desserts a highlight. Matching wines unusual styles but worked well! So many people said it was great & we weren't let down. Great food & wine. But book early.

My partner and I came here for our anniversary and they really went above and beyond for us. They take the time to explain each meal right down to the origin of the ingredients. You can tell they love what they do. All of the drink recommendations were personal and were chosen based on what they thought we would love and it was perfect every time. The food was to die for.. We had the end of autumn menu, absolutely divine, we will 100% be back.

What a great find in Newcastle - this restaurant could comfortably sit comfortably in any of the world’s top dining cities. We were lucky to secure a reservation at short notice (but had to dine at 5.30pm) and it was a stand-out experience. Service staff are friendly helpful and professional. The manager/owner Suzie was charming and made you feel comfortable and she runs a top front of house team. The 5 course degustation menu was very thoughtfully prepared and dishes came out of the kitchen at the perfect pace and covered all of one’s senses : taste, looks and smell. The chef obviously knows his stuff and unique combinations and cooking techniques used all showed. A great experience and kudos to the entire team.

Wife and I drove up to Newcastle for a wedding anniversary weekend away from Sydney... Subo was my choice for our fancy dinner... Great service and a great dinner, When the bill came through I was so surprised as it was quite a steal given the level of attentiveness and the great dinner we had... we just need another excuse to visit!

Suzie, Beau and the incredible staff turn out amazing food. It is our favourite restaurant in Newcastle and they never disappoint us. My partner does not eat gamey meats or seafood and they are happy to substitute for her. Regular changes to the menu mean we return over and over again!

This was our first visit to Subo & definitely won’t be our last! The food was incredible! I have been trying to decide what was my favourite dish all day ..... the oysters were like nothing I’ve ever tasted, the tofu so delicate, the quince is the best I’ve ever had! The wine was amazing, matched to each dish. The service is second to none, the staff so welcoming & knowledgeable. Words really can’t do the experience justice, if you haven’t dined here yet do yourself a favour & book a table. We are looking forward to our next visit!

All courses were thoughtful food, with knowledgable service. One of our party had dietary restrictions, and the servers and chefs were very considerate which made this experience even more enjoyable. Key pairings of locally sourced food with unique pairings underpinned our evening.

Had dinner here a few weeks back. I had the vegetarian menu and my brother had the regular menu. We really enjoyed all dishes and liked how Japanese flavours were combined with modern Australian ingredients. I would visit again when the summer menu is available.
