All the apartments are beautifully furnished to a high standard and within easy access to the Convention Centre & Exhibition centre in Melbourne. Our apartments are well equipped and perfectly suited for family, holiday, couples and corporate apartment accommodation. They are also ideal as short term accommodation if you are moving to Melbourne.

Summary: Perfect for a budget conscious couple wanting to do a self drive holiday with a central home point. We enjoyed our stay in Melbourne at the Gem apartments last month. The reason for three stars is that we compared it against a hotel of equal price, where all the little details are perfect and well maintained, although it wouldn’t have a kitchen and full-size fridge like this place does. The positives: good view, great location, kitchen facilities handy for those not looking to eat out, car bay was useful because we had a hire car, Foxtel was included with all channels. Areas for improvement: while the room was clean, it needs some maintenance to remove its signs of age, Foxtel remote was a bit dodgy, and a big one for those who like to sleep in - the windows don’t have block out curtains, so waking up at 6am is forced by the light coming in between the wide gap between the blinds. Also no dimmers on the lights or soft lighting, only allowing a harsh light through the whole room. Bonus points: Joyce who checked us in was very kind and friendly, and by our guess and others reviews - she would be very accommodating if we needed her outside check in regardless of day or time.

I stayed here while recovering from an operation. I had a glitch one night but Joyce was so calming and helpful she put me at ease and everything was sorted. I was able to take my time moving out and was not rushed out at 10:00 am! The location was perfect and the IGA was so close I was able to rest without leaving my room. Thanks guys for looking after me. Donna x

Gem Apartments at 88 Kavanagh Street Southbank - My family and I arrived at the apartment at 2.20 pm on Thursday 2 January 2020 for a five night day. Upon arrival we had to call for someone to escort us to the room. When we were taken to the room it was not ready, dirty sheets had been left on lounge and no housekeeping had be done. We were not informed of this before we arrived. Not a good start. It then took the housekeeper until 4.30 pm to clean the 3 bathrooms, make the 4 beds and vacuum. I cleaned the kitchen because at this point we were running out of patience. We were 3 families comprising of 6 adults and 2 young children. During our stay we noted that for a 4 star accommodation, it was spacious, but the maintenance within the apartment had been neglected. Blinds would not close, air-conditioner leaking in dining area, which we had to turn off due to safety reasons. Clothes stand had broken bits. There was no place to put soap, shampoo etc while in the shower, unless you were 7ft tall. Oven very dirty and the nobs for the oven had no numbers on it due to be worn out. The bin in the kitchen had no lid on it and there were no bins in the bathrooms. There is no security with the entry door. You need a key to lock it, which is OK if you all parties have a key. It should lock automatically from the outside when one enters I would think. The traffic at night is very constant and loud. My rating is for the layout and space of the apartment.

I have never left a negative review for any company before but am compelled to do so in this case. I arrived to check in to find there is no check in desk or concierge service. I rang the contact number on the website to find that it went straight to mailbox. I continued calling over the next 1.5 hours. Still no response and no phone call was made back until 1hr 45 minutes. I was told someone would be 10 minutes away. And that I was in a different building. 5 minutes passed and another call was made from someone else who told me someone was thirty minutes away. They told me I should have checked my emails. We confirmed email address on file to discover that the email they had was some completely random one not associated with me. Worst experience ever. Be very careful booking with this company.
