The expansive site results in Portland Bay Lodge having no noise limits or open fire restrictions, other than Portland Bay Lodge and CFA safety requirements. Portland is the whale watching capital of Victoria and the site of Victoria’s first permanent European settlement. Commercial whalers such as William Dutton and Edward Henty resided in the area and Portland has a history as one of the foremost whaling areas in the world. Whales can still be seen frolicking in Portland Bay and the remains of the old whaling jetty and the historic convincing grounds are located next to the property. Portland is the traditional home of the Gunditjmara and Indigenous entertainment and education can be arranged.
