Very inclusive and modern gallery that will appeal to everyone. Book online (tickets are free but best to make sure there is availability) to avoid disappointment. There is underground parking (think it is free on weekends? But 3 per hour normally). Galleries will take approx 2 hours to tour. They had the "pop rock" exhibition in Feb-21 and they brought back great memories growing up in Australia in the 80's and 90's, very powerful and nostalgic.

The National Portrait Gallery has a unique collection of portraits, along with regular special exhibitions. At the moment (April 2021) the special exhibition is "Australian Love Stories". Go see it!

Great exhibition space with a great exhibition. Staff very friendly and helpful. If they have something on just go and treat yourself to a great hour or so of art. The Cafe needs to be better organised, not sure if they are short staffed or not. Allowing reservations is a mistake, service was slow, food was great so a bit of positive negative about the Cafe.

Diverse collections of portraits on different media of different famous and not so famous people in Australia collected on different eras. It shows how colourful Australia is.

I’ve learned a lot at this National Portrait Gallery. The paintings were beautiful and I enjoy the story behind each one. It is free entry.

The cafe here is very good indeed and has indoor and outdoor seating. The gallery is limiting numbers but that wasn't an issue on the Sunday I visited. You can book ahead online (on the gallery's website) or just rock up. Exhibitions change regularly so check website to see what's on. The National Gallery is just across the road.
