I can't recommend this introductory 3 hr throwing course highly enough. Jo has a lovely studio, in a beautiful location. He is warm and welcoming, is an excellent teacher , who repeats instructions clearly, as often as required. He is encouraging and does the final finishing process so that you will have something beautiful at the end. Thank you Jo.

Having so far completed three consecutive courses at Oxide Clay Art, and beginning as a total novice at wheel throwing, Jo Ottaway at Oxide Clay provided a great experience. Not only do you learn wheel throwing skills including turning, but also glazing techniques. Having completed the initial course Jo was happy to keep teaching me more complicated skills and allow me to perfect them at the school. His teaching style is most informative and relaxed and notwithstanding my sometimes awful mistakes, I never felt I was wasting his time. I would commend this course to all interested clay workers.

Jo was brilliant, he was patient and thorough in his teaching style. We finished the course w 10 handmade pieces that we are immensely proud of. Would highly recommend his lessons!

I attended Joe's classes for a year starting as a rank beginner. Joe is a patient and knowledgeable person who knows how to teach adults. His classes are relaxed and students progress at their own pace and according to their developing skill levels. Joe's an "awesome potter" who covers all skill levels and in my case assisted me to go from stunted, wobbly bowls at the start to making a couple of presentable teapots at the end. I developed an enthusiasm for pottery through the classes and as a result have continued with my own wheel and kiln. I'd highly recommend Joe whether you just want a hobby or whether you are looking to be a professional potter.

The classes at Oxide Clay Art are great. Joe is a very patient teacher and the setting is calm and relaxed. Lots of information and direction to guide you through the processes. I learnt so much and made some nice pots/bowls, one of which someone wanted to buy!! Total surprise as I am new to throwing pottery. I would highly recommend these classes as you are taken through the whole process from preparing the clay, throwing, to finished glazed pots.

Joe runs a great course at his beautiful home / office on Mt Ninderry. He is a true professor of the art of pottery and has superb patience to attend to everybody in a relaxed and individual way. Both my wife and I completed the course, we had different speeds and goals and Joe was able to help both of us maximize our time and skills. We both really enjoyed it and will definitely return and recommend.
