This place can be easily overlooked as it's bit hidden in side lane but that's what gives it nice calming vibe out of the rush of the main street. Staff is nice and helpful. Many wonderful dishes to choose from, but I've got a feeling you can't go wrong with any choice.

Everyone reading my reviews knows that I love Japanese food, and that I miss traveling to Japan... Hikaru didn’t disappoint. They offer simple yet tasty Japanese dishes at a very reasonable price. We had tempura and sushi, all very delicious, with a nice glass of sparkling umeshu. Highly recommended.

Our go to place for Japanese food in Newtown. Must've gone there 10 times this year to eat in. Opens at 5 and fills up pretty quickly. Lots to choose from on the menu with beverages including beer, wine and sake. Usually order 5-6 things from the menu , a beer ,wine and a lrg sake. Usually comes to 70-80 for the both of us.

Expensive and bland. Definitely the worst food I've had in Newtown. Ordered veggie bento box (21) for take away. Told them I'd wait on the bench outside as it was busy inside. They said they'd let me know when my order was ready. I waited quite a long time and when I went in to check on the order it was sitting on the counter getting cold. "Whoops - they forgot". Got home, food was ice cold and soggy as a result. Worse still it was extremely bland. I was given no sauce whatsoever - not for the the tempura, not for the agadashi tofu and not even soy sauce or wasabi for the sushi. Called them and they offered to give me a replacement the next day but to be honest the food was so bad I won't be back under any circumstances.

Affordable Japanese eatery with a cosy courtyard setting. We enjoyed their soft shell crab sushi rolls, tuna mayo rolls, Chicken Katsu udon, and Kaki Furai (deep fried crumbed oyster). Most of the meals cost between 8-13.90 which was pretty good value. Would like to try their lunch special sometime.

Order Japanese chicken curry for takeaway which was beautiful there down fall was, it was cold and no one told me it was ready! Longest way ever! But good food

One of my favourite Japanese restaurant in Newtown. Dream boat that brings the party to my mouth. Cheap wine menu plus is BYO aswell. Great value and definitely worth a try.
