Food and service good. Took off two stars for the sneaky cc surcharge. They've taken the sign off near the counter and assumed because of pandemic they are doing that surcharge....

The wait staff can be a little rude at times, especially when it comes to paying. However, the food is always very good. I wouldn’t recommend the drunken chicken as it arrives cold and looked undercooked. However, everything else on the menu is great. My favourite dish is the spicy peanut prawn dumpling. The braised pork belly is also delicious but also very fatty considering it doesn’t have crackling on top. If in doubt, go with any dumplings. They are hand made in front of you and all great quality.
xiao long bao was good If I will come here again, I gonna order just that one
Food is amazing. My favourite dumplings in Brisbane. However, the customer service/ communication could do with some work. The last time I dined I ordered some dumplings which I had to follow up and when I did they told me that they weren't available even though the lady took my order for it.. So was pretty much was waiting for nothing...
To start I suggest taking a look at the distribution of ratings to realise that with this many 1 star reviews this place is not worth your time. Results are being skewed with 5 star reviews that are likely not legitimate. Let me stress that this is a review based on multiple visits with expectations that do not exceed your average dine in experience, I normally let the food speak for itself. After having eaten in the numerous Sydney locations I’ve really come to enjoy New Shanghai but let me stress that this location is nowhere near the same experience, I have no idea how it is part of the same franchise. For a start, they never have chicken dumplings or numerous other things on the menu, however never bother to update the menus. With months between visits you think this would be rectified. Secondly, the service is practically nonexistent, it is really difficult to get the attention of the staff and when you do they dont acknowledge what you have said, even with a simple smile, it’d make you feel as though it was forced slave labour. When the food arrives it is placed on the far side of the table without any acknowledgement of what it is or who ordered it, multiple staff did this without even saying a word. Lastly the quality of the food is far subpar compared to the quality I’ve come to expect from New Shanghai. One of the dishes we ordered was borderline inedible, the chicken did not feel or taste like chicken. Even the famous signature dumplings taste off, as if the filling is old or something. Trust me when I say you’d be better off going anywhere else in the area! To the owner: You need to take a serious look into your business and make some profitable changes.
If you’re Chinese and know your food, don’t go cuz it’s absolutely horrible... for non Chinese folks, this does not represent authentic Chinese food, at all. Awful taste and even worse value. Bun is dry, fried pancake is something they probably invented themselves as it’s nothing like what it should be, Shanghai fish 5/10 very average.
Rating 1-5 Food: 4 Prawn dumpling 10pcs for 19.50 Steamed rice Presentation: 5 Ambience: 5 Service: 4 Price: 4 The dumpling wrapper was too thick that I can barely taste the prawn. Other than that, service and price was okay. Might give it another go, the xiao long bao on the other table looks yummy.
I was the first and only customer at 11am on a Friday morning, tried to order their fancy tofu, and was told that it was sold out. First and only customer. At 11am (i.e., when it first opened for the day). Friday morning.
