The “treatment” of the live animals in their store is deplorable at best. Broken cages, far too many animals in cages too small for one let alone half a dozen. Can see RSPCA has been called previously and I have called again today.

If I could rate this place zero stars I would have. If the ratings went into minus numbers, I'd have done that. We've always bought our hay, pellets and litter from here but NEVER AGAIN. For the first time we had a look at their animals while we went in today and all their birds are in small cages, all their bunnies are in small cages (except for one cage) and there's minimal food. The most distressing part was us alerting a staff member after realising a bunny was caught in a crack on the floor. We stuck around long enough to make sure the employee set the bunny free from the damaged tray and then I became extremely distressed when that bunny attempted to limp away on three legs with its fourth leg visibly badly broken. Will never ever ever set foot in here again and will tell everybody I know the same!

Mt Barker Fodder Store is on the corner of Wellington Rd Wiland St opposite the IGA store. This store caters to the neefs of the house, hobby farm and farm needs. Chickens, ducklings, fodder, pellets etc is available. Friendly staff r happy to cart heavy items to your car. This is a long established business.

The RSPCA has recently taken action at this location due to horrible living conditions and maltreatment. This is good, but these people still don’t deserve your money or time. Don’t go in unless you want to see filthy conditions and be treated rudely with horrible customer service.

Avoid this place if you can :-( Animals didn't seem to be treated that well, there's a lot of overcrowding. Staff were somewhat rude, we wanted to buy 1 chicken as a friend for the only chicken we had left at home but were told to buy 2 cos the one at home will bully the new one. We've kept different breeds of chickens for over 10 years now and my wife grew up on a farm so we have a reasonable amount of knowledge and experience with chickens. We explained that the single chicken we had was very passive and has never pecked any other chickens, she has a really nice personality. The store owner told us we were wrong and we needed at least 2 new chickens, but having 2 new ones for a while now they bully the original one we had!! :-(

If you're not sure - just ask & they will help you. They also offer 'Bird Sitting' - so if you're away & need someone to look after your feathered friend, these guy's can help out.
