Needs some serious maintenance and TLC. A lot of people live here, and things can get pretty gross in the shared kitchens and bathrooms. Bills are included, and prices are low, but you get what you pay for. If you're a poor student or you're unemployed, this might be a good option for you, but if you can spare a few more bucks, probably look at what else is available.

I recently finished my tenancy at this place. Its honestly exactly what I needed; the monastery is (obviously) a converted religious residence. As such the rooms are set up for quiet solitude, if you need to study, or arent looking to put down roots with your neighbours, its perfect. The rooms are extremely affordable and that comes with wifi included (power too, of course). Living there can be quite a serene experience, bad housemates tend to have their opportunities for mischief severely curtailed, there really isnt much that one can get up to in the vein of partying due to the single bedroom units and the soundproof walls deadening any music. The place is honestly perfect for students looking for a study friendly environment or workers who need their sleep.

- Infested with cockroaches. Saw at least 5 mice in my 6 months there. - Mouldy walls. - It seemed only selected bathrooms were routinely cleaned. If you like spiders, cob webs and dead insects use the 3rd floor bathroom, you'll be sharing a shower with at least 5 spiders. There is a window on the first floor that cannot be seen through as the space between the glass and fly screen is filled with thick layers of spider webs. - Repeated theft from other residents. - Other residents can be.. interesting? Of course there are some lovely people, but you'll get your share of nutcase neighbours. - Cars damaged, broken into and number plates stolen on multiple occasions. - Real estate very hot and cold with communication, depending on what you are wanting to discuss. To the point of having to go in to the office after weeks of no reply to texts, calls or emails. - Overpriced for what you get. Starting at 165 for a small furnished room with dirty shared facilities with at least 10 other people. Up to 220 for large room with big bed and a few rooms have a balcony, also with shared facilities. For the same price, you can get much more secure and clean accommodation in and around the area. Dissatisfaction isn't uncommon among residents - 'monastery madness' is a term thrown around. If you don't mind insects, don't cook often and would be spending most of your time out at work or something, it might not be too bad. To sum up, it's an unhealthy environment to live in.

For around 6 months me and my team have done cleaning services for Monastery Mayfield and I have 2 recommendations for both tenants and business people working with them. If you are thinking to RENT A ROOM in that place - THINK AGAIN! - I haven't seen more cockroaches in my cleaning career than in this place. They aren't usually visible in the day unless you will move fridge in the room or microwave in the kitchen. - mould in the bathroom on the ceiling and walls for sure isn't good for your health - your landlord lives in the same building - the neighborhood in Mayfield is very "interesting" but also your housemates can be "nice" individuals Seriously for this price you can find much better places. If you will do ANY JOB in this building ASK FOR THE PAYMENT UPFRONT They owed us money for 10 unpaid invoices. It took weeks to finally get paid and conversations with the owners weren't pleasant.

Nice to visit an older site in Mayfield, however the grounds are overgrown and the building is in need of some tender loving care.
