One has heard so much about this auction House, both written & word of mouth, yet the reality didn't meet expectation. The high review score is not justified nor were the meagre 6 reviews on show too enlightening. I thought Elders Fine Art would be a poor second cousin, how wrong was I, it's the other way round. Marc du Plessis was pleasant enough as the auctioneer, but never matched the kudos bestowed upon him. He was adequate, but failed to generate the requisite enthusiasm as well as they do at Elders. The receptionist seemed bored & officious, charged 5 for a catalogue devoid of photos while Elders provide one free with excellent colour photos. Elders also provide some nibbles, wine, soft drinks, water, coffee & tea, du Plessis only the latter. I must confess, as the auction proceeded, my partner & I began to enjoy the experience more & more as much of the auctioned material we found quite interesting. I don't wish to be too critical, but I feel this auction House needs to lift its game a little, a bit more flair, a little more showmanship to captivate & lift the mood, not to mention lifting some hard earned out of one's pocket, lol. Yes, we would come again & do recommend one should experience their auction. Cheers.
