My daughter loves her writing group. She looks forward to the class every week and has lots of fun with the other students and teacher. Laura loves writing stories in a supportive environment and enjoys the variety of writing activities they do each week. She also loves the story writing process they focus on during the term and having a teacher to support her each week with feedback, ideas and direction. Thank you!

When I retired I decided to follow my long-held dream of writing. I wasn’t sure what kind of writing I wanted to explore, I just knew I wanted to write. I found Writers Victoria and everything clicked into place. I became a member of this organisation and appreciated more and more the courses Writers Victoria had to offer. I started doing workshops, making some great friends and being taught by writers I had long admired. I decided to tackle my father’s life story and was so glad I was able to finish it before he died. This ignited a passion for biography writing. I’d thought travel writing would be my thing, as my husband and I had travelled a bit, but it was life writing that became my focus. I now volunteer for Beyond Words, a community of volunteer biographers who help people in aged care tell their life stories. It is such an honour to have someone share their story with you. Since gaining more confidence in my writing I have started entering writing competitions. Writers Victoria publish a magazine on writing six times per year and keep members up-to-date on writing competitions. They run short workshops throughout Victoria and online covering all types of writing including memoir, travel, romance, crime, poetry, children's’ writing and fiction. They have advice and support for anyone tackling a big project such as a novel through to those working on their life story or even just creating a picture book to give to their grandchildren. I do love Writers Victoria and all it offers. I feel like it is my club.

These people are fantastic. To cater for so many genres of writing, and to host so many events each year, is testament to the amazing job Writers Victoria does. The people are so friendly, supportive and helpful. They listen to feedback and use it to grow and improve what Writers Victoria provides to writers and the writing community. This is evidenced by the variety they now provide, which grows and diversifies every year! Since becoming a member, attending events and interacting with other writers, my writing has significantly improved, as has my confidence! Thanks to what I've learnt and the support I've received through Writers Victoria, I've had 12 short stories published and now have the confidence to actually consider starting a novel! Keep up the awesome work!

Writers Victoria is central to the lives of so many writers living in Victoria - not that it takes up a lot of time and energy, but rather that WV works as a fulcrum around which a writer's life in Victoria can flourish. I could talk about the workshops, courses, meetings, and social media connections that WV has helped me with, but I'd rather focus on the people; WV is staffed by a passionate group who do their best to nourish writing throughout the state. The results speak for themselves in the thriving community that surrounds this Victorian institution.

I've done a lot of different events over the five years I've been part of Writers Victoria. There's a really wide range of events on throughout the year that have catered to my needs as a writer as I have developed. i started off doing general writing courses, and as I developed I've started doing the more genre specific courses as they are available. I really like that there are a diverse mix of tutors, from different genres of writing, and different ages, which means I am able to relate a lot to the tutors - they're just like me! It's the real hub for writers in Melbourne (and probably regional, but I can't speak for that) so I'm so glad this organisation exists. I would be struggling a lot as a writer to work out where to go next with my career.

Writers Victoria welcomes all writers, at all stages of their career. I know - they welcomed me with open arms two years ago when I left the corporate world to pursue a career devoted to the arts and the written word. That was a hard transition, and Writers Victoria helped me throughout. I volunteer for the organisation's genre based workshops, and I learn something new each and every time. I recommend Writers Victoria to anyone interested in the arts, literature and developing their own practice. I have a vested interest here - I am a member of the Committee of Management of Writers Victoria. But before I joined the Committee I was a paying member of the organisation, and I will remain a paying member long after I leave the Committee. If you have a question about Writers Victoria, just ask. The staff will always help, and they welcome you into the fold.

As a new writer, I've found the range of workshops and services offered by Writers Victoria to be of great value. The staff are helpful and courteous, and extremely knowledgeable about the industry.

This organisation is a sham. Beware anybody who pays money to use its supposed "services" to writers. They manipulate and exploit vulnerable people who are looking to get published by offering outrageously priced courses, with tutors with little or no experience. They charge upwards of 500-1,000 (yes that's right!) and more for shoddy manuscript "assessments" that are farmed out to people with zero writing/publishing experience. You get nothing in return. I would avoid this organisation at all costs. There are so many other non-profit organisations, arts groups and companies out there doing a better job, hiring professionals in the field and giving you real value for money. If I could give Writers' Victoria 0 stars out of 5, I would.
