This classified and heritage listed St Kilda Road mansion was built in 1889-90 and used as a residence until 1960 when it was purchased by Repco and used as its headquarters. The Australian and New Zealand College of Anaesthetists (ANZCA) purchased the mansion in September 1993 and today it houses the ANZCA Library, Geoffrey Kaye Museum of Anaesthetic History and the Fellows room. Although substantial internal alterations have been made during its 50 years as a commercial property, the mansion has retained its magnificence. The building itself is built in the Melbourne boom-time Victorian Italianate style and set in a substantial and beautiful garden. It features a distinctive 3-storey tower, cast iron return verandah and canted bay windows, and balconies, and rooms with high ceilings, beautiful Tasmanian blackwood doors, architraves and paneling, staircases and beautiful painted glass panels at the entrance. Ulimaroa, once thought to have been a Mãori name for Australia, is one of only five former stately homes remaining along St Kilda Road. It's a must see.
