Further proof that the NGV know what they’re doing. Lovely space, well maintained facilities and if you’re not there for the art what are you doing? Seriously, Melbourne art spaces are hard to beat

Nice gallery showcasing some of the best Australian art. It is the Australian arts arm of NGV conveniently located at Federation square. You can see most of the exhibits for free however they do have some paid exhibits as well. No bookings required even on the weekends as compared to the international NGV which requires (free) bookings during peak times
As a visitor from Queensland the way Melbourne embraces and incorporates the Arts so fully into the heartbeat of the city was a joy to behold. This is one example among many; first rate facility, outstanding exhibits thoughtfully curated and completely accessible and free to all. Melbourne, you are blessed!
One of the best things in Melbourne City is the free entry to NGV and especially the Ian Potter Centre. The artwork is always sublime with collection of modern and contemporary artwork including collection by Australian artists. Like all museums, there is enough information when you check out the artwork to give you bit of a background on the artist and their work. Also check out the NGV shop to purchase items inspired by the collection.
A great gallery. The 19th century paintings are just beautiful. Lots of 20th century pieces and modern art. Beautiful space.
There is so much amazing Australian art on show here. Definitely worth the time. It's a modern facility and very relaxing.
