We were unfortunate enough to purchase an investment property from McDonald Industries 4 years ago. While the property looked seamless when we first moved in, it now has cracks all over. The ceiling and the walls have long large cracks running along them. Some.of the cracks are so deep that we can see beyond the wall. Out of fear that the walls are going to collapse we arranged for a structural engineer to inspect the property. On assessment he advised that the cracks are the result of using minimal materials. There was no leeway given for movement caused by the soil compression and expansion (think drought and rain) and the building lacks supports to help it withstand any type of movement. To rectify the problem we are going to have to pull down the plaster boards (the walls), add in supports and joints to prevent such cracking from occuring again, and then put up the walls. My neighbours either have the same amount of cracking or greater. Needless to say they too regret their purchase. I do hope, for anyone searching that they will think twice. Our other investment property, through another developer, purchased 8 years ago is yet to show a single crack.
