We always tried to find an authentic Venezuelan restaurant in inner Sydney but it’s quite hard. Till this one popped up when we walked around New Town. Colourful and delicious. Full of flavour. The restaurant is tiny but very friendly & genuine. Great price too!

Outstanding little corn flour 'tacos' served with delicious hearty fillings. Definitely check it out for a quick bite that's worth the calories. Gluten free is a plus!
I went to LA Reina yesterday with my wife, for the first time. Arepas that I had there were absolutely amazing. Mind you, I had Arepas at a lot of different places here in Australia. However this place has the BEST Arepas, HANDS DOWN! Lady that served us was very friendly and very warm as well as welcoming.
We found La Reina at the outdoor market in The Rocks. We saw someone else eating an Arepa and had to try it! Fortunately they offer a sampler with all 4 flavors: beef, chicken, pork, and black beans. All of them were delicious but our favorites were the pork and black beans! I wish we had something this delicious back home in the US.
La Reina serving Venezuelan food, it started on the market scened and now has a permanent spot at the city end of Newtown. This is primarily takeaway joint offering the famous Arepas, which are a popular Venezuelan street food and are also very popular in Colombia. Arepas are healthy corn flour bread / tortillas served with an array of different fillings. They are Gluten free and you can also get vegan and vegetarian Arepas. They are huge, like a massive burrito, filled with rice, beans, pulled pork, chicken, salads, cheese and more, served solo or with grilled plantain. This was our first Venezuelan food experience and we were suitably impressed with its refreshingly healthy fillings and amount of tasty options. We tied the famous ‘Papellon’ the popular Venezuelan choice which is designed to represents all different cultures, with chicken or pork, beans and feta - your choice when ordering. The National dish of Venezuela is the ‘Reina pepiada’ supposedly developed to represent Miss Venezuela in 1953, filled with chicken, avo and a touch of coriander. They also offer some less traditional deconstructed Arepas in bowls with a serving of rice. Make sure to add some capsicum sauce or the avocado sauce for added flavour. If you can’t decide what to order, the sampler is your best bet, quadrella of mini arepas. It is a colourful offeeing with the corn bread dyed green with kale and purple with beetroot. For fillings choose from varities of pulled pork, beef, chicken or vegetarian, they are all delicious and made from fresh ingredients. The husband and wife team and their business partner are all delightful and super proud of their food. It’s great for a healthy and filling bite to eat, the food is nourishing, well priced and prepared on the spot. La Reina is a good health take away option and is well situated close to the uni and bars of Newtown, make sure to check it out when you’re in the area.
I was feeling homesick and was desperate for eating a good arepa. After seeing the pictures in social media and the good reviews they've got, I headed to La Reina Queen of Venezuela. I wasn't disappointed. The arepa sampler was fantastic and had several small varieties in a single dish. Including a Reina Pepiada, carne mechada (shredded beef) and pork arepas. Also the pabellón was pretty good. We also ordered a portion of tequeños (cheese filled sticks). The staff is very friendly and willing to provide further information and suggestions. They even gave me a small birthday present :) It all took me back home for a moment. Great job guys
Have you ever eaten Venezuelan cuisine?! Nope, neither had I, until this evening! I can attest that these AREPAS from @arepas_la_reina are mouth-wateringly delicious, and especially so good for me because they are naturally gluten free dairy free. It’s kinda like a Venezuelan version of the Mexican taco, or like a burger but with a bun made from white corn. The staff were so friendly and helpful when I needed to choose something to suit my dietary needs. They even generously swapped out the feta for some avocado for me, AND I got a student discount as well! #winning Oh, and I forgot to mention the plantain side-dish, it’s kinda like a banana but you have to cook it... mmmm out-of-this-world delish! This meal gets a double thumbs up and I’ll be back many times for sure due to the close proximity to my base at Sydney Uni. Yum! Oh, did I mention they also have halal, vegan and vegetarian options, plus a variety of yummy meats, so literally everyone can safely eat here. And it was inexpensive with a cheerful atmosphere too. Can’t wait to go back, craving it again now.... #arepas #venezualan #gf #gfsydney #gfdf #glutenfreesydney #vegansydney #almostpaleo #glutenfree #newtown #camperdown #macdonaldtown #usydeats #sydneyfoodie #sydneylocal #sydneyblogger #sydneyfoodblog #sydneyfoodguide #sydneyfoodshare #sydneyeats #sydneyfood #broadsheet_syd #broadsheetsydney #concreteplayground #sydneylunch #sydneydinner #sydneycoeliac #sydneystudent #arepaslareina
This place is amazing. Went here for lunch today and was so satisfied. I ordered the vegan arepa even though I’m not vegan, sounded amazing. And it was. The highlight was the sauces they gave me to put on it, chilli capsicum and avocado sauce. They were amazing. I will be back again. And again. And again.
