The restaurant was highly recommended and we had come from Sydney for our wedding anniversary and chosen this restaurant to dine at. We were eventually taken to our table at the back of the restaurant where we had a table positioned in the back corner next to an old sign and near an unused food preparation area. The food was O.K. and the young fellow who served us was good at his job. I’m sure that there are many great meals to be had at this restaurant, and perhaps it was a one off, but for such a special occasion we left feeling underwhelmed.

Its delicious! Definitely visiting again. Fish and pasta were both so yum and Tiramisu melted my heart.
Had a great evening right from the start when we arrived early and the staff gave us a warm welcome at the front door. We then proceeded to be sat at a nice table and had our order taken by a very polite young man who explained the menu and advised me on a great bottle of wine. The best was to come a beautiful 3 course meal that was presented well and tasted amazing. Would highly recommend.
l actually celebrated my birthday in Italian and sons with my friends today and l really want to share something now. please read this with your patience. 1. My boyfriend told them it will be a birthday before making the booking online BUT when we arrived there, we were told by staff who work there that we had not informed them. Our table that was reserved was apparently going to ‘disturb’ the other guests as a result of this and we were moved to a much smaller table out the back that was not big enough along with being next to a booking of 14 people which meant we could not hear each other. 2. Despite it being a birthday party and them being told this, when my boyfriend arrived with a birthday cake he was informed we would not be allowed to eat this on the premises as it was not made there even though he offered to pay a surcharge. Who expects someone to have a birthday party, not bring a cake and not think to tell them if they did bring one they could not have it there. 3. Their menu was not the broadest in terms of flexibility for parties desiring to eat meat but avoid pork. There were 5 options on the whole menu that contained meat that wasn’t pork and 3 of them were fish. We don’t mind the pricing for a restaurant if the quality is worth it but we were left disappointed by the quality of the meals. I was left feeling extremely disappointed and angry after my first and last visit to Italian & Sons. This is not a good place to celebrate your birthday and it will definitely let you down.l feel like l am owed an apology from this restaurant!
The best Tiramisu I have ever had in my life!!! Thanks for such a delicious meal. I loved the lobster pasta special also xx
My wife and I honeymooned in Rome a few years ago and still to this day one of our favourite experiences was to "eat like an Italian" (the same menu format Italian & Sons promises) a set price, and beautiful food flying at you all night until you can't possibly eat another bite. It wasn't flashy, but my god it was delicious and so beautifully authentic. (Not to mention as much complimentary Limoncello as you can drink at the end! - they just give you the bottle with a couple of glasses!) This was nothing like that. This restaurant will go down as the most expensive and equally forgettable Italian I've ever eaten. Their walls are adorned with multiple Good Food Guide awards, but I assume that's because the owner plays golf with the award committee. You'll do well to choose literally anywhere else on Canberra's bustling Lonsdale Street.
My wife and I heard good reports about Italian and Sons, looking forward to our early (6.15) Saturday booking. The dining experience was a slightly "mixed bag", with some scope to improve coordination between waiting staff (e.g. served another entree we had already eaten, although promptly replaced with the correct dish, plate cleared although we told another server it was not finished). Service felt somewhat rushed, although we understood the need to vacate the table for later diners. Pricing was certainly at the upper end of the scale, and we do not fully agree with the many effusive fulsome reviews of this good but not outstanding restaurant.
The food is slightly above average. Not great. There are other better Italian restaurants in Cbr.
