The Independent Market Operator (IMO) is an industry-funded organisation whose role is to: • administer and develop the Wholesale Electricity Market (WEM) Rules and Gas Services Information (GSI) Rules; and • monitor Rule Participants’ compliance with the WEM Rules and GSI Rules, to investigate potential breaches of the WEM Rules and GSI Rules and if appropriate, initiate enforcement action. The WEM operates in the South West Interconnected System (SWIS) which serves most of WA's population of more than 2 million, with a summer peak demand of 4000 MW. Notice: Prior to 30 November 2015, the WEM Market Operation Functions and the GSI Functions were undertaken by the Independent Market Operator (IMO).
