I have a mixed review (the bank is weird and the online banking is horrific), however I have received the best customer support from Gabriel Wang in this branch. I really felt cared for in my complicated issue. I highly recommend this exceptional professional! Truly this bank only survives the competition because of 2 reasons: Gabriel and chinese speaking staff :) Thank you Gabriel again!it means a lot for me!
Waited 20-30 minutes to open up an account. Multiple other people who walked in after us were seen to first. Was told they are here for other services - regardless, one would think that opening accounts is a basic staff should have.
I am very pleased with HSBC in every country I have lived as they manage international moves easily, it's a real relief to have their support. In addition the personel at the Melbourne branch is very friendly.

Worst customer service I've experienced anywhere. We switched to HSBC for supposedly easy international banking but got gouged by fraudulent exchange rates, then started getting charged 35 per month for no reason. When we asked why they said that charge had been standard for 2 years, but we were only charged for two months before we changed banks. Among many dumb issues, they made me open an account with CommBank across the street just to open an account with them. Absurd bureaucracy. It took weeks to get our debit cards working after many failed cards, and we couldn't get credit cards despite six figure savings. Their app is way behind Aussie banks. Very clunky and overly complicated despite almost no useful features. Oh and if you don't speak Mandarin or Cantonese expect to have a language barrier in the branch. Most employees can barely keep up with a native English speaker.
I just wanted to give an excellent review for HSBC in Melbourne. I recently applied for finance for a mortgage. HSBC assign you are relationship manager. My relationship manager was Anwen. She was very professional, efficient and of course friendly. She even answered enquires outside business hours! I can’t recommend Anwen and HSBC enough.
I almost never rate anything on the internet but the comments here really don’t match my experience with the branch. Good premier service. I opened my account today within 30 mins total.
