Hill End, Australia

Tours are only open on the weekend, and have gone pre-booked at least two days in advance. Pretty cool to look at though.

Mine tours available depending on times and holidays. Carpark and long drop toilet at mine entry. Adjacent Bald Hill and Irish Town tracks allow interesting exploration of what is left from abandoned mining town. Loop track returns to Hill End village.
If you want a historic mining tour that feels safe enough to take kids and not worry about the mine collapsing in then this is for you. The shaft takes you in 80 meters into then you have the option to climb 30 meters vertically through the nine shaft. Kerry who ran it knew her stuff and loved the place. Once you’re done see if Ted Abbot is still around for some gold panning down at a river nearby...he’s in his 80s so knows the town better than most and doesn’t advertise so you’ll need to get his details from the visitors centre.
A great way to get some history on the Hill End area. Pay the entry fee at Northeys of Hill End on Clark Street for the guided tour before making your way the the mine. Interesting information about Hill End mining history is given during the mine tour. You can see mining tools from the gold rush days while in the mine. To exit the mine you can climb the ladders in the vent shaft or walk back out the way you entered, Very enjoyable.
Very friendly service
Well worth taking the tour if you're in Hill End. The name, though is Bald Hill not Ball Hill
Great experience. Love the history.
