Hanging Rock is a house-sized boulder on top of a small hill. One side is overhanging, which provided a sheltered camping spot for aboriginal peoples who lived in the Tidbinbilla area long ago. There is a 500 meter loop walking track from the small parking lot which climbs up to the Hanging Rock and comes back around the other side. Along the way the track crosses a small mountain stream, which would have provided an excellent fresh water source for the people living here. It is worth taking time to stop here, to enjoy the stream, the well-formed path, and to appreciate the long history of aboriginal peoples who enjoyed this same spot so long ago. And yes, there are a couple of picnic tables at the small parking lot so that you can "have a picnic at Hanging Rock"!
