I understand that police are busy, paperwork takes ages, and in this tough line of work you need to de-sensitise yourself for your mental health. It doesn't excuse the rude behaviour and laziness of the officer (Clanfield) in charge at the front reception area. He constantly tried to brush us off to other police stations or law courts when I tried to submit an incident report, which is supposed to be made at a police station. ANY police station. He made us - the victims - feel scared and uncertain, unsafe, unprotected... in addition to the fear we already felt from trying to report our abuser. I understand now why people do not report crimes if the person they first talk to at a station, treats them like this for trying to do the right thing. It wasn't until I pushed to talk to a sergeant (Assad and Skelton) that I received some care and compassion, as well as being able to make an incident report. I truly appreciated Assad's effort to call us back, assure us, and apologise for Clanfield's treatment (despite it not being her fault). Thank you to Skelton for trying to make conversation with us to calm us down, and continuously contacting us about our event number. Unfortunately, I believe Clanfield's damage was dealt and the victim was unable to continue due to her fear. I hope that in the future, someone better will be stationed at the front, and for any victims reading this, keep a record of everything and everyone you talk to. It's important for evidence.

As victims of a home invasion, you would think the police would charge the correct person. Simply because of the colour of my skin, they assumed I was the home invader and not the partner of my girlfriend and not a victim that was subjected to a hanos crime.
