Do you enjoy watching Suits, Law and Order or The Good Wife? Real proceedings in the Geelong Magistrates court aren’t quite like the ones portrayed on those TV shows, but they can be both interesting- even dramatic - and educational. I recommend that everyone should spend some time each month to watch the courts in action – it contributes to our democracy – observing what goes on enables you to make informed comments on the justice system and how the courts fulfil their responsibilities. Having members of the public attend provides public scrutiny, and ensures that our courts and judges are accountable. Trying to pick which court to visit can be difficult. If you go to the Geelong Magistrates Court you will usually be able to see something from start to finish. If you decide to see a trial in the circuit county court be wary as they can go on for days. There is free permit parking at the back (near the train station parking), the permit can be obtain from the security guard at the door.

The only court that I know where the judge’s attendants audibly swear in court while shifting through paperwork.
