Authentic Japanese restaurant, one of the best in Melbourne for sure. Huge range of drinks list on offer, super friendly and efficient staffs. Sushi and sashimi platter was very fresh and yummy especially that white eel and scampi. The Taraba Crab tempura is definitely a must try dish, very fresh meaty crab with super crispy and thin tempura on the outside. Will certainly be back to try out other dishes. Great place.

Blink and you may miss it, Fujitei is a hidden gem in St Kilda. Turn right down St Kilda Road and you head towards Fitzroy Street, but turn left and go down the quiet Wellington St and go to this beauty of a restuarant. From the outside, you can’t really tell what’s going on, but from the moment you step inside, you know you’re walking into someplace special. The interior is a mix of classic Japanese, but with modern touches including murals and an indoortree structure with laterns. Good Japanese lives and dies on their sashimi and oh my, this place delivers. Usually I love the tuna (which I did love), but this time it was the salmon and salmon belly that were the stars. Fresh, creamy texture, clean salmon. But there are lots of quality a la carte options for you to dive into. We ate a lot, and we both had differing opinions on what we loved. We both agreed that the sashimi, miso steak on the grill, fujitei maki were the clear standouts. I alsoenjoyed the soy duck breast and ponzu oyster shooter. What we definitely agreed on was the quality of the food, any one of the above dishes on its own would be a 5 star dish, we were incredibly spoilt to have several. Another reason why this place is 5 stars is because of the service. Ryo is a star and you can tell lives and breathes Japanese food. His sake knowledge was out of this world, it was like talking to a sommelier. The other tables were enjoying his service as much as we were. There’s lot of ‘pretty good’ Japanese restaurants, but Fujitei really is a heads and shoulders above the rest. ありがとうございます Arigatou gozaimasu!!

Fujitei is a Japanese restaurant with a focus on simple but quality Japanese cuisine. Head towards the back and sit in either the outdoor garden or the “indoor” garden. Sushi, tataki and sashimi were all fresh and flavourful but the best dish has to be their seared beef with miso paste!
