Dr Darshit Thaker - Medical Oncologist

I first came to know Dr Thaker in 2011 in my previous role as General Manager of St Stephen's Hospitals Maryborough and Hervey Bay when we were trying to improve oncology services in the area and reduce the numbers of patients forced to travel to Brisbane to access cancer services. Dr Thaker took on the challenge providing weekly services to the Fraser Coast region. He is highly respected by his colleagues and his patients and his skilled oncology care and empathetic interactions. More recently a close friend became a patient. Dr Thaker cared for her at a time when her long cancer journey was probably at its most challenging. His empathy, humaness and compassion for her at this very difficult time was amazing. The simple act of spending time and listening was what she needed as much as medical care and he excelled. In my career I have witnessed many, many amazing medical specialists and I have no hesitation in saying that Dr Thaker is truly exceptional and a credit to the oncology profession.
