On Ebay I have bought 3 CV joints for my VY Commodore & 2 CV joints for my dads VX Commodore as well as a wheel bearing for my mums Corolla through them. I'm not a perfectionist or fussy to the point that I'm OCD but I noticed at least one of the CV joints was making a little bit of noise which was noticeable around car parks around supermarkets, etc particularly where there were speed humps but the noise seems to have went away after 2 - 3 years of ignoring it,so I crossed my fingers and the CV(s) basically "polished" or "machined" it or themselves in,a bit like running a new motor in ,in a car. It's also a bit like a diff I rebuilt in my VY Commodore a bit over 1 year ago, where the gears suffered a little bit of uneven wear due to the small pinion bearing which had lost its preload and had some bad pitting on the inner race which caused some gear noise, since I didn't have the facilities or money for re-lapping the gears or to buy a new set of gears, there was still some gear noise there at different speeds & loads due to the car being a manual (particularly noticeable when coasting) ,the slight amount of gear noise has always been tolerable but has diminished a fair bit in the past year (I have heard worse where a person would need ear muffs whilst driving),I set the backlash back up to what it was before I pulled the diff down then made sure the tooth contact pattern was good so I have done the best I can with that gear set. I am just letting the diff gears polish themselves in the same as the CV(s) did.
