I hired a pricey piece of equipment which didn’t work as expected and we weren’t able to use it. I rang the office and asked them to come and collect it early and got an earful about how my operator mustn’t know what he was doing (he did). I then called into the office a couple of days later to settle the bill and asked whether there was any room to move on the price, given the circumstances. I wasn’t asking for free, just some negotiation. At this point, manager Chris Cone unleashed an angry rant blaming me for not knowing how to use it, for changing the booking due to weather and refused to budge on the charge. He was so angry he went red. It was quite surreal. I said several times I just wanted to settle the bill, not have an argument, yet he continued ranting, even as I walked out the door. Well they got their two days hire, charged directly to my credit card, despite the machine sitting in my drive for only a few hours. But they will never get any return business. Not because of the money, but because of the incredible rudeness. When I told a local tradie about my experience he said, “Yeah, that’s why people hire their gear from Geelong.” That’s exactly where I’ll be going in future.
