I would not suggest playing basketball here in the casual leagues for a number of reasons. 1) the character of teams is low, they will take any opportunity to cheap shot you, arm pulling, back shoving, elbows, anything they can get away with. Your opponents do not want to play a fair but competitive form of basketball 2) Referees will not call illegal and dangerous physical contact, they can not control the physicality of the game which has also led to a few heated physical altercations over the past weeks, I am genuinely afraid of being injured in these games 3) Referees are vindictive and the power goes to their head, this prevents them from calling fair games and takes all the fun out of the sport 4) Referees will literally make up rules on the fly leading to mass confusion on both teams. If you want to fall out of love with the beautiful game that is basketball come to Coburg basketball stadium, they butcher the game daily.

Gets busy which is great to see the kids, adults etc playing basketball, there is a tuck shop for your nibbles drinks etc & if you have little ones there is a play ground outside. Great basketball comp !

Obviously love the place, the fact that the facilities are a bit on the 'rustic' side can't take away from the complete lack of interest from the officials. Actual basketball seems to be optional, but they do run a 20 minute timer and swap the teams around every 45 minutes. No-one gives a toss about the rules or the scoring, and the officials love to have a bit of a chat with their mates no matter whether or not a game is happening. If you happen to be one of their mates you should have a great time. Would love for the VBRA to pop by on and see if this lot can be used as an example of how to scare casual players away from the game. I'll stick to my current comp, even if it is an hour further to travel.

Wish I could give half a star. Without a doubt the most poorly umpired facility in all of Melbourne. Lose the ego. Read the rules. You get paid, so do a better job. Would fire everyone and start again. Our team have left forever and are now happy back out east!

anyone who has played in the coburg casual league has had the misfortune of being reffed by Sue. Her inability to properly ref a game demoralises everyone playing, and will actually make you want to quit. Her obvious lack of care for the game of basketball and its rules makes a mockery of the whole league. Having spoken to other refs, they say she takes pride in her ability to completely ruin the game for people just looking to have a good time with their friends. I have no idea how she is still employed there, as absolutely everyone, staff included, knows how little she cares for her job, and how absolutely horrendous she is at it.
