I have been many times to Cinema and have always found the staff friendly and helpful, the menu, though not pages long, covers all the bases and is great. The specials are amazing whenever I've had them. I love getting the three plate tapas (I've named it the tower of tapas as it comes out on a stand) and recommend the ancini balls, salt and pepper squid and lamb kebabs. Its a smaller cafe but plenty of space outside and warm in winter. The chef can be creative with his specials and I've had some fabulous one offs there. Last time I was there the manager told us that they are refreshing the menu in 2013 and I can't wait to see what the chef comes up with.

I don't know how long ago as we haven't been there for a while, but this establishment has changed hands to people who don't know what they are doing. I know because I have frequented this place for many, many years and it has changed hands several times during that time. This time the service was terminally slow, not attentive to the needs of customers, not presented in the correct manner and the prices truly outrageous for a mere cafe. We had coffees only and tried to get the attention of the man for more, only to have to go to the counter because he was stuffing around at the counter and not paying attention to the customers (screams lack of hospitality training). Even after saying that I needed attention, it was a full ten minutes before he came over to take my order. My latte was presented in an ordinary large tea cup, not a glass with something to hold it with. Unusual. Even so, we contemplated having dinner there but looked at the prices and they were prices you would see in the most fancy gourmet restaurant with a top class chef and silver service. 30 for every main meal. I suspected the meals wouldn't be top class, so we went across the road to Oxford 152 and had meals that were MUCH more reasonable and absolutely top class. Sorry, owners of the Cinema Cafe, you need to lift your game and train your staff properly. Or maybe train yourself first as I suspect you have never owned or worked in a cafe before. Sad because we always have a coffee after a movie. This cafe has so much potential because of the location, but you still have to know what you are doing.
