Charcoal Restaurant is a hole in the wall steak house that has been operating in Canberra since the early 1960’s. The atmosphere is cozy and warm with dark brown and red decor that is reminiscent of a bygone era. We ordered the Rib Eye Steak medium rare with pepper sauce and it was cooked to perfection. The chocolate mousse was rich and velvety and not too sweet. There is an extensive wine list for all budgets. We paid just under 200 for 2 main meals, 2 desserts and 2 drinks. The staff and their service makes you feel like an old friend. I recommended you make a booking in advance. I’ll definitely be back again!

Best steaks! You will not want to go anywhere else in Canberra after this. Super juicy and delicious. Can also order fresh oysters. Friendly, helpful and attentive staff. Little bit more costly but we'll worth it! May need to book in advance.

Best steak I've had in my entire life! I ordered a 400 gram scotch fillet which was special in the evening. The waitress explained that this cut has been dry aged for 100 days and I decided to give it a try. The steak was sublime. After the first bite I couldn't help but close my eyes and fully enjoy the taste of it. Full of flavour and perfectly cooked.

Charcoal cancelled my 6pm booking at 5pm on a Saturday night. Everywhere else booked. Was looking forward to dining here for an anniversary dinner. Very disappointed and would appreciate more notice next time if you have to cancel a reservation.

Steak cooked to perfection but plate presentation not a strong point. Prawn cocktail entree underwhelming in flavour and sizzling garlic prawns not sizzling. Good wine selection. Attentive customer service. Overpriced for not being an a la carte restaurant. The restaurant is the oldest in Canberra and has retained its originality.
