The Ship for World Youth Leaders (SWY) program brings together youths (18-30 years old) of various backgrounds from around the world to discuss common global issues, exchange cultures and join seminars and workshops conducted by experts and the participants themselves, all while living and travelling together on a cruise ship! The SWY program is intended to assist participants to: - Enhance their cultural competence - Increase their intercultural communication skills - Broaden their global perspectives - Facilitate international cooperation - Build leadership skills that are effective in diverse societies Develop global and diverse networks - Expand their ability to contribute to society The program runs for approximately six weeks between January and March. During the first stage of the program, participants will travel to Japan and experience a short homestay with a local Japanese family before the onshore training commences in Tokyo. Then it’s the main event...the ship! The Nippon Maru will be your home for the next month as you sail from Japan to two international ports and then back to Japan. The SWY's program areas of focus include: - Intercultural understanding & communication - Leadership - Project Management - Youth Entrepreneurship - Community Development - Environment - Disaster Risk Management - Media - Many more! Participants also have multiple opportunities to run seminars/workshops in their own area of expertise. The SWY experience does not end when you return home. Participants will join a global network of Alumni in more than 60 countries who work on a range of local and global community development projects. This program is life-long!
