The Ryan Key® is a revolutionary safety device which enables stevedoring workers to retreat from a high risk area during the discharge of containers from ship to shore. The Ryan Key® specifically improves on site safety and productivity by reducing the snagging of the load whilst discharging containers. Developed by Safety Faciliator and Stevedore Andrew Ryan in 2013 in response to a fatal injury to a co-worker, the Ryan Key® is used to keep the container’s twistlocks in an open position to enable the container to be released safely. The malfunction of a twistlock impacts: - Safety by requiring an operator to enter a Restricted Work Zone (RWZ) placing them in a high risk safety - Productivity through unscheduled plant and equipment down time whilst the issue is rectified. - Reduction in labour inputs.
