Bourke, Australia
N/A
This lock and weir was the first of its kind to be build in Australia. It was opened on July 1897 costing 21 000. A contractor took up the work for 18 000 but pulled out of the project before completion. The 4m weir backs upstream for 40km! And it is the only weir on the Murray-Darling river systems. Bourke was the hub for wool going downstream and supplies going upstream.
