That I made a guitar I absolutely love without prior woodworking experience is a testament to the skill, both in Lutherie and teaching, at the Sydney Branch of Australian Guitar Making School. Teachers and students alike were friendly, welcoming, easygoing and very encouraging. Rather than weekly classes I attended training in an intensive format, completing the build in 3 weeks. I highly recommend this option for anyone who lives out of commuting distance. The workshop is well resourced. I came away with a damn fine instrument in a short timeframe, as well as a bunch of new skills. This experience represents excellent value and it was a privilege to attend. Im A very happy customer.

Recently did an intensive electric guitar course with Vernon at the Hornsby school. Great experience. Learned so much and walked away with a ripper instrument. Recommended.
I’m starting to lose count of the number of guitars I’ve made with Steve. Learning the art of the luthier is made so enjoyable by a teacher who is as dedicated and committed to seeing every student produce the best instrument they can. Classes explore all aspects of the stringed instrument you create, from materials to methods and tools. Classmates are just as important to me as the classes and I am proud to add to the chorus of praise from all past and present students for The Australian Guitar Making School.
Steve is highly experienced and knowledgeable in guitar-making, especially in Classical and Flamingo Guitars. His knowledge in the art of guitar-making is second to none. The workshop consists of 3-5 students and Steve supervises us along the way making sure a first-timer like me is guaranteed a very high quality guitar in the end! You get a few options choosing your wood - Indian rosewood, QLD Maple, Tasmanian Blackwood etc. It's a 4 hour session with a half hour break. The environment is relaxing and friendly, I'm thoroughly enjoying it, can't wait to see my final product!
I'm building my second guitar at the Hornsby shed with Steve Toscano. Finished my first (classical) guitar a few weeks ago and immediately re-enrolled to begin my next - what's going to be a beautiful Tassie blackwood cutaway.
Highly experienced tutors in a vibrant atmosphere and safe work environment. Access to the best hand tools in the market. Great results on every new build . Incredibly rewarding experience. Highly recommended.
What an excellent environment to lean new skills, Steve's teaching pace I think suits people who do and don’t have woodworking experience, come make a guitar or 6, now to learning to play.
