I am a single working mother of a five year old . My car was stolen and police were given permission to take it for finger prints. I have had to pay for a hire car for three months, I wasn’t called, I was community policing and an indigenous group of elders to get my number plates and key. I work 24 / 7 running a street school and as a teacher for the act government. I was giving this car to a student who required transport. I was never called back and the response from staff when I rang felt judgemental. I believe that the police judged and treated me like I was like the criminal due to being at my Aunty Alison l protect her from this group that were trashing her house. I shouldn’t have to do this myself.And if the police worked together with us , their attitude might change to like police. Even I feel like the police are threatening rather than there to help us. B we cause of this you won’t change anything. Only the indigenous community policing and the schools can help. Don’t blame the kids as they know only what they are taught. Our schools need to provide opportunities and the police need to start community policing and team with elders. It is that simple . You guys are just bully’s making assumptions and intimidation by following , but you never try to prevent. I am angry. U am sick of spending my own money and putting myself at risk by intervening . And actually helping the community.
