I called this morning to book an appointment for a hearing and tinnitus test/assessment, I got an appointment booked in for Chermside clinic which was all fine until after the person on the other end of the phone thought they had hung up. It sounded like they were training someone as they talked through my call with them. Firstly the person I spoke to told the trainee that the appointment should go for an hour but can "push people through in 30 mins". I had also mentioned that I was looking to book due to my military service; she went on to tell the trainee that the "younger ex military were coming in to try and scam extra money out of the government and they weren't going to let it happen". This is a terrible mind set to have for young veterans coming in looking for genuine help, having a preconceived notion that our issues are not legitimate and taking it upon yourself to make that assessment. I had already been assessed by the military as having hearing loss caused directly by overseas service and have been employed full time since leaving, to imply that I am looking to get something for nothing is insulting. I then spoke up and told the person on the phone how highly inappropriate it was to assume that about me and my generation of ex defence members, the person did not apologise and in fact doubled down and told me some were looking to do that.

If you are looking for a total professional whom is genuinely concerned about your health and hearing, I would highly recommend Soren at "Health and Hearing", Ashgrove. He takes the time to explain things in a way you can understand and gives you the very best value for your dollar. He doesn't try to fob off old technology for the sake of a sale. (My aids are now in my ears instead of the drawer!) My wife is so happy she doesn't have to shout at me any more. I am also very impressed with his special care and kindness for veterans.
