Brodie Spark named this Tempe House after the Vale of Tempe in Greece. Apparently he was quite the host, so he had Willie the Boatman ferrying people in and out at all hours before there were the connecting roads and bridges. After Sparks died it eventually fell into the hands of nuns who opened it as a home for destitute women. They were the ones who built the St. Magdalen Chapel that’s adjacent. It’s in the beautiful Discovery Park grounds where you can have a lovely walk with views of the Cooks River. There’s a shady area with picnic tables and a couple bbqs nearby. You can park at the Discovery shopping centre garage. You just turn into Brodie Spark Drive and follow the P signs. Makes a lovely afternoon visit.

Interesting place with old history. People who run the premises do amazing things organizing FOC concerts, barbecues, tea etc at the open days. I’m very grateful to organizers who gave me a chance to arrange my personal recital there, invite my friends and people who just respect classical music. I hope other musicians could follow and do more at this amazing place
