Alliance Française de Melbourne Reviews | Rating 4.4 out of 5 stars (8 reviews)

Alliance Française de Melbourne is located in St Kilda, Australia on 51 Grey St. Alliance Française de Melbourne is rated 4.4 out of 5 in the category education management in Australia. Founded in 1890, the Alliance Française de Melbourne (AFM) is an Australian not-for-profit association dedicated to the promotion of the French language and culture. It is the largest language school for French in Victoria with more than 3,500 students per year. With our team of qualified native French-speaking teachers, we offer a large range of courses, including specialised courses, private tuition, workshops, immersion days, outings to museums or restaurants and more! Teachers use cutting-edge technology with interactive whiteboards (IWB) in many of our classrooms to enhance language-learning through dynamic multimedia integration. The AFM is the only accredited examination centre to conduct all the diplomas issued by the French Ministry of Education as DELF and DALF exams, along with the TCF, TCFQ, TEF and TEFAQ. Named in honour of the Alliance Française de Melbourne’s founder, the well-known Berthe Mouchette Competition created in 1894 is open to students of French from Grade 3 to Year 12 and attracts thousands of candidates each year who bring French poetry to life through recitals. Enjoying the patronage and support of the French Embassy in Canberra, the AFM, as the only French cultural centre in Victoria, organises major cultural events each year, such as the French Film Festival in March and the French Christmas Market in December. A varied program of exhibitions from local or international artists is regularly presented in our art gallery in St Kilda, and concerts, conferences and film screenings punctuate the cultural calendar all year round. Our multimedia library includes thousands of French books, CDs and DVDs as well as a dedicated section for students with documents to enhance their French language learning. Admission is free and open to the general public and lending is open to current students and members of our association.

Bonjour, I just want to say it is my first online French course with AF the class is, A2.1. I wasn’t sure if the online was going to work for me at first but I am very happy with the online and will continue with the next lesson A2.2. Also equally as important, if not more, is the French Teacher Isabelle. Isabelle is fantastic, she explains things well, she is patient and encouraging during class, she has a good nature about her and I am very happy in her class. What also makes a difference is she explains things in English, Just enough to help the group and that makes a huge difference. Don’t get me wrong 95% of the class is still in French. I would recommend the online learning option. Walter

I was initially a little apprehensive about the online format of the classes, but the initial communication from AF was excellent and put my mind at ease. Our prof, Emilie, was professional, relaxed and flexible. It was clear that she put a lot of work into preparing the modules and the content for the lesson. She spoke clearly, explained the grammar points well and was (most importantly) very patient with the students. I'm looking forward to B1.4 en ligne next term, and hope to see Emilie as our teacher again :

My teacher provided interesting materials and encouraged plenty of conversation.

I am currently travelling in France and would like to give you my feedback regarding this progression of the courses I have been taking. I am surprised at how much the conversation classes have actually helped me in speaking French in France! The classes have built up my confidence in speaking, and although I am not as fluent as I wish to be, the people here can understand me (and my Aussie accent!) and are keen to speak with me in French. I can understand them with ease--until the conversation becomes too fast! Having this experience is giving me the impetus to continue studying and applying myself a bit more strenuously than I have been. I think the practical application in France with what I have been learning is a tremendous experience and a great motivator. However, this does come alongside the great teachers we have been working with the conversation classes. (although the people here in France are being exceptionally patient and kind!)

An absolutely incredible institution with a long history of French in our fair city of Melbourne. It holds French related events and courses for both adults and children of all levels. I highly recommend this institution to anyone who is thinking of undertaking a course in French or plans on visiting a French speaking country.

At Alliance Française Melbourne, whatever your level in French, you choose to learn a beautiful language in a very welcoming and friendly environment, with qualified teachers who are all native French speakers! The Alliance also organizes various cultural events, which you should not miss out if you like the French culture! I cannot wait to go to the Christmas market!!
