I didn't even know this place existed. Tourism Victoria needs to advertise. Excellent customer service, clean facility, great place to take the family on a sunny day. Also best gluten-free cakes.

From the moment you drive in you are greeted with a step back in time, the scenery and the vintage maintained grounds are a real must see. Dined in at the State Coal Mine Cafe it was above and beyond expectations. Staff were welcoming, friendly and presented themselves with great natural coastal country charm. The food was exceptional, an easy to read menu, clear prices and a large on the wall specials board. Ordered the Roast beef gravy roll with a side of chips/fries the Roast Beef Gravy roll was by far the best roast beef roll I have tried out, the beef was perfectly cooked and morealess melted in your mouth. Complimented in a fresh soft roll and chips was delicious and for this Roast Beef Gravy roll I will absolutly be back for more. For a desert treat ordered the special Waffles with mixed fruit and ice-cream drizzled with syrup I was completely blown away it was the right amount of sweet well balanced with the fresh fruit and touch of ice cream. Highly recommend stopping in to have a look at the magnificent well kept grounds, walk through history and dine in their fabulous, delicious and overall high quality cafe. This stop was well worth it, not overly priced, clean, great customer service, delicious food, plenty of parking space, well maintained facilities and restrooms this one is for everyone.
Very well presented historical village with excellent genuine exhibits of the coal mining era in Wonthaggi covering every facet. Underground accompanied tour of the mine is available. An excellent cafe on site also provides meals and/or coffees etc. An absolute gem and must see when in Wonthaggi.

Good service and clean food
Good to see it reopened taking account of distancing, the pies here are some of the best in Australia I reckon. A pleasant walk worked up the appetite.
