Best coffee I tasted in Melbourne and that's saying something! Food and pastries great too. I hope they re-open after Covid so that I can visit again when I'm back in Melbourne.

Relatively new South African Restaurant. Very simple menu - I’ve had the Chakalaka with baked eggs and the bread. Also had the Boerewors scroll and a koeksister to go. It was all really tasty!!

Truly authentic South African cuisine, I enjoyed the Bunny Chow and Koeksisters, both wonderful. A must for anyone interested in real Southern African food.

What a lovely experience and find. They have just started up and will grow for sure. We had bunny chow's and samoosa's which were amazing. Food tastes fantastic and is made with love. Great speaking afrikaans again, it was a treat too. Baie dankie en goed gedaan.

A group of my mates and I had the pleasure of dining at The Ostrich and the Egg this evening. Delicious South African cuisine, frosty cold local beers and service with the authentic South African charm. Gary, Maureen and the team really know how to make you feel at home. Notable dishes were the Bobotie - a mousaka style dish with Cape flavours. As well as the ubiquitous borewors roll which is hard to do badly, however they manage to get oh so right. The bunny chow, curry served in a quarter of a hollowed out bread loaf didn't last long on our table either. Bottom line is you can't go wrong. Pull in one night, crack a cold Hansa and enjoy the charismatic hospitality. We'll be back, now-now.

A gem of a restaurant, especially if you hail from South Africa. The food was excellent! The service was friendly, although perhaps a little slow. We would also have loved to have heard some South African music (of various kinds), for the full ZA experience. However, the food could not be faulted and overall we had a lovely afternoon.
